Want to create two node cluster with FOM . Can anyone provide step by step guide to create a Vsphere environment with least downtime or zero downtime.
Can we have node or ESXi in diferent geographical to be part of two node cluster ?
how can we achieve disaster recovery of one site ? can we use VSA replication between two sites with two node cluster at each site ? any white paper available ?
regards
Raj

Re: Want to create two node cluster with FOM . Can anyone provide step by step guide
Hi Raj,
Absoultely, you can have a geo-redundant two-node VSA cluster. The key things to consider are:
- Power in each location - separate UPS
- At least some form of network redundancy between the two nodes and FOM/NFS witness. In the event of a node failure, you need to ensure that the remaining node and witness can still talk to each other - e.g. don't host your witness in the same location as one of the two nodes.
- I'd recommend against using an NFS witness. In practice, we've had very mixed results as opposed to a FOM which is quite robust.
- 1GbE dedicated network between nodes is sufficient for two nodes.
With the right configuration you can have zero downtime with a two-node stretched cluster. Just make sure your VM networks are also available at each location.
A few more considerations:
- Don't use the MEM driver - too many issues.
- Get HPE to disable LRO on the VSA's - it's a known issue and causes all sorts of performance/latency issues.
Cheers,
Ben
