2 procurve 3400cl switches connected to 1 unmanaged switch

Hello I'am using an xrrp failover scenario with 2 3400cl switches which will connect to one unmannaged switch(uknown vendor). both of these links will be in the same vlan obviously. Is the only way to get both of these connections to be in a rstp forwarding state to use the bpdu-filter feature?

If a port is being currently blocked by STP it's probably because there's a loop there. You could use bpdu-filter but I'd expect your network would quickly see a broadcast storm.

With a managed switch in place of the unmanaged switch, you could use MSTP that could be configured to forward over the different links in a multi-VLAN network.

Hi

Connecting the 3400 Managed Switches to an Unmanaged Switch is like Connecting both switches with a Direct Cable :)

Replacing by a Managed switch like Matt's suggestion and use MSTP, will be a great idea.

Good Luck !!!
