5406zl hangs at 100% CPU wikh K14_47 but not with K13_47

Hi all,

I 'v got a problem with a 5406zl, firmware K_14_47, Rom version 12.20 with 6x 4-port 10Gb module (non mini Gbics).
When all 10gb Gbic are out the cpu stays low. When I put just one 10gb interface in one of the ports the cpu rockets to 100% cpu immediately.
The 5406 is configured with OSPF (ABR), VRRP, MSTP (no instances), IGMP, Multicast etc.

When I bring down the 5406 down to the previous version, K_13_47 all functions well.

Has anyone encountered this problem or a clue ?

1st of all you can find the K.14.60 available to use from the website, this is stable and also to double check get the "show tech all" command output from the switch while this issue is happening and check with ProCurve support i think they will provide you with the latest firmware (other than the K.14.60)

Hi Shadow,
I would have done a 'show tech all' if the switch had not been so damned slow. Because of that and the existing closing service-window I had to return to the stable and working firmware version.

The strange thing is that the client has many other 5406s with the same modules and transceivers (HP ProCurve 10-GbE X2-SC SR Optic, J8436A) and they work just fine with firmware version K14_47 !?!?!?!

No clue so far. :)

Hi all,

The problem has been found.
As far as I heard it has to do with muticasting.
The problem has been reproduced by HP and one of its big partners in Holland.
A workaround has been configured.
HP has to solve this further in a new firmware version.
