DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

Re: DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

Hello everyone,

voila I have a LAN consisting of several switches HP mode
Star all connected to a switch saying unifying
on which we configure multiple VLANs, VLANs communicated
between them, -> (we have tagged him the ports that connect the switches between them
with these VLANs)

I would like to know if I tagged him as the ports (which connect
switches between them) with the default VLAN (VLAN 1), knowing that I
use it, and I do not know if the communication between switch
(inter-switch protocol) is only via the vlan 1 then it must
Tagger mandatory on these ports for the good functioning
network?

Thank you for your return:)

Re: DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

Bonsoir Monsieur,

I assume that the following thread will answer your questions
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1398254

Moreover Management protocols (LLDP, STP, LACP, ...) are sent in VLAN 1 - independantly if you tag it or not. Bascially you can leave VLAN 1 in the default state (untagged) and just tag your additional VLANs.

Re: DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

Hi Michael,

actually, one little detail of your post is incorrect.

With Cisco it is correct, that (at least several) management protocols will be sent over the native vlan and/or vlan 1. So, there it is good best practice to leave vlan 1 as the native one.

With ProCurve, however, all management traffic will simply be sent untagged only; independant of the port's vlan configuration!
Saying: management traffic is not bound to a particular vlan at all.

Re: DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

Hello,
Thank you for your explanation, so I leave my setup as it is now
just another question:) for vlan 1 is what it is that the ports of switches are no untagged: exple Switche HP 50 ports:

vlan 1
name "DEFAULT_VLAN"
no ip address
no untagged 1-50

Thank you for your return.

Re: DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

This indicates, that they are untagged with another vlan.

A port can be untagged member of one single vlan at a time only.
--> So, if a port is configured to be untagged member of - let's say - vlan 10, it will be automatically marked no untagged for vlan 1.

Re: DEFAULT_VLAN switch HP

one more thing, untag = access port
so if you want a port to belong to a specific vlan then untag it on that vlan
