Which type of UPS should I buy to protect the switch?

Can you clarify what you mean exactly by type? Are you looking for general specifications or recommendations on a particular model?

APC have a UPS selector on their website based on load, etc. but the 3500yl is not in their list of devices.

I would use a reliable UPS (don't know where to get the reliability data such as MTBF and stuff, tho). If you buy chineze ups-es you'll change them every 6 months or less. APC's machines' batteries usually last for 3 years.
Italian AROS is also good - we use 2 load-balanced AROS monsters in the server room, and until now we had NO problem.

Thanks for your Information.

I normaly take UPS from APC.

In this case I wanted to know what special type is needed. The UPS selector shows me threee alternatives. Minimum is 1400 VA. Max is 3300VA. All are SmartUPS.
As we also use PoE with our procurve and a WebCam I will read the manual concerning this topic.
