VLAN between 3400cl and 1800-24G

Albiet i am new to VLANs but the interface on the 1800-24G does not allow you to allocate an IP address to a newly created VLAN, hence i cannot get a VLAN active between a 3400cl and the 1800-24G.

this should be very simple - all i need is a single VLAN trunk comprising two ports (for redundancy) from the 3400cl IP=192.168.0.x/24, to the 1800-24g supporting servers on subnet 10.61.0.x/24 - traffic to flow both ways.

Very confusing and frustrating, the 3400cl is a breeze compared to the 1800-24g - can anybody assist me please?

I will use a 2824 connected to the 3400cl and use the 1800-24g as a wiring closert switch.
