VRRP between HP 8212zl and 9304?

Right now, we are using VRRP between two HP 9304 routers. We just bought an 8212zl router and are wondering, since the configs are so different, if we can continue to use VRRP with the different configs on each router?

It shouldn't be a problem given thats its doing the same thing...

Does anyone know if this will work??

Re: VRRP between HP 8212zl and 9304?

Hi

I doubt you can use VRRP between one 8200 and one 9300 because its not the Same VRRP on both.

On the 8200 is defined in RFC 3768
Where in the 9300 is defined in RFC 2338

You can know about the the difference between the RFCs in this link:

http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3768.txt
Section 13: Changes from RFC 2338

I think its better for you to get another 8200 :)

Good Luck !!!

Re: VRRP between HP 8212zl and 9304?

I have a customer that had 2x 9300's running VRRP, pulled out one and replaced it with a 5400 - during this time VRRP interoperated fine. The final part of the migration was to replace the remaining 9300 with another 5400. All went smoothly.

The differences between the older VRRP standard and the current standard are minimal, should have no impact on most installations.
