Required Fans for HPE FlexFabric 5900 AF switches

Required Fans for HPE FlexFabric 5900 AF switches

Hopefully someone in the group can give me some info on this. I know the HPE 5900 AF has two fans. I know there are two types of fans, Front to back and Back to front. What is the recommended config? One of each or both of one type? I am assuming one of each or maybe this is environmentally driven? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Required Fans for HPE FlexFabric 5900 AF switches

Directly from the Installation Manual:

"The HP 5900AF-48XG-4QSFP+ switches require two same-direction air flow fan trays to function properly.
Do not operate the system with one failed fan tray for more than 24 hours.
Do not remove the failed fan tray until you are ready for replacing it.
Do not operate the system without any fan tray for more than 2 minutes.
Do not operate the system outside of the temperature range 0°C to 45°C (32°F to 113°F) degrees.

Failure to comply with these operating requirements may void the warranty. "

The front to back (port to power) versus back to front (power to port) is mainly related (and a driven implementation choice) to cold/hot aisles separation design adopted into the DC where the Switch will (or is supposed to) be installed...thus the inlet air should always be facing cold aisle (cold air) considering that the outlet air (exhausted air) will be for sure hotter/warmer.
