Active Passive HP EVA on 11.31

We have an Active-Passive EVA and I'm trying to present a lun from it to an 11.31 HPUX box. The 2 TB lun shows up in an ioscan, but I cannot create a VG in sam - it says 'unsuccessful'.....

I've had issues in reverse, I've presented luns from an Active-Active EVA to an HPUX 11.23 box before, once again the lun shows up - but you cannot create or do anything with it.

I've also noticed there seems to be a huge gap knowledge about this, HP techs onsite cannot answer such a question, and appear confused that I cannot do either. Surely someone must know?!

Re: Active Passive HP EVA on 11.31

First of all it is very important to present a LUN in "hpux" mode (never default!) to a hp-ux host.

Active/passive EVAs are unsupported with 11.31, with 11.23 you need to use autopath/securepath.

Why not upgrading the EVA to active/active?

Hope this helps!

Re: Active Passive HP EVA on 11.31

Well, you can adjust your system via scsimgr to use only a single path to a single controller of the EVA, but this is NOT what you really want to do!

Hope this helps!

Interestingly - and I did not notice this before - on our EVA 5000 there is NO OS choice when you create the Vdisk!

Re: Active Passive HP EVA on 11.31

BTW, the os choice appears during vdisk presentation, not vdisk creation.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

HSV110 3110

There are is not option while presenting a vdisk to choose what OS will be trying to use it. Hadn't noticed that before.

Re: Active Passive HP EVA on 11.31

Sorry, this was not correct.

You need to select the host in HOSTS section (general tab), there you see/set the Operating System Type.

Must be HP-UX for HP-UX hosts.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
