Re: ADD printer

The link above is from 1995 and has nothing about remote print servers or network printers. There is no one way to add "a printer". You must define the printer model and it's connection method (serial, parallel, non-HP network adapter, HP network card). For serial and parallel cables, the above document is adequate, but most printers are connected to a network.

But there are also a large number of cheap printers that are incompatible with anything except certain versions of Windows.

Re: ADD printer

Hi sprakash1980,

the simplest way to add a printer is with sam/smh.

if you are on 11.11 or 11.21:

# sam

if you are on 11.31:

# smh

For this to work you need to download this:

https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=PrinterConfig

the "l" for "Printers and Plotters", and "a" for "add printer".

But please note that first of all, you need to identify the type of printer you want to add. There are three types, according to the way they are attached to your server:

- Local printer
- Remote printer
- Network printer

Re: ADD printer

I wrote a script to scan the NIS+ printers.org_dir table to maintain the HP-UX printers configuration, but I think I only have it on an air-gapped network. I'll see if I can find a copy over on this side.

Re: ADD printer

I'd be surprised if he did, but in any case the script would be easy enough to adapt to any source of BSD-style printer definitions.

Re: ADD printer

depends on what type of printer..

HP's or printers with port 9100 active
if your HP/UX has hpnpl on it,
you can use hppi or addqueue

Some printers will not be recognized devices,

you can also use SAM for defining printing.
