CDE doesn't start

Hi,

I have just installed HP UX 11i.v2, but when I login CDE I get an error window telling
"Desktop messaging system could not be started", check whether the desktop is properly installed, whether the hostname is correct in /etc/hosts (it is), and whether the network is properly configured (it is).

I followed all the instructions posted in the forum
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=297127
but it didnt make any change.

I attached the output of dr_dt

Any help will be much appreciated

Re: CDE doesn't start

Lemee assume your hostname is "kaps"

#host kaps
kaps 100.0.0.1
#host 100.0.0.1
kaps 100.0.0.1

Does this work as above ?. If not check in /etc/hosts whether there are multiple entries for your IP_ADDRESS or HOST_NAME

That should fix this error

Re: CDE doesn't start

Hi,

Could you check the state of the installed CDE filesets.

# swlist -l fileset -a state | grep -i cde

Re: CDE doesn't start

Thank you all. Our problem is solved. The problem was DNS reverse look up. I configured DNS reverse lookup table. Then problem is solved and I logged in the CDE succesfully.

Thank you again

Re: CDE doesn't start

Another way to solve this general DNS problem with X, is to set the resolver order in "/etc/nsswitch.conf" to: LOCAL,BIND.
