Re: device file problem

According to this the VG is just empty.

Any recent changes in the SAN?
Any other recent changes made?

Consider to restore from backup.

Hope this helps!

Re: device file problem

If you know what disks were part of this VG you could try reimporting them.

The only problem is that with a regular 'vgimport' you will get default LV names (like lvol1, lvol2, etc.).  But if there was only one LV in this VG that shouldn't be a problem.

For example, if you want to import ORAVG02 and it had disks c1t2d3 and c1t2d4 then you would do:

vgimport /dev/ORAVG02 /dev/dsk/c1t2d3 /dev/dsk/c1t2d4

Re: device file problem

Hi,

From the existing volume group configuration we can see that there is no logical volume configured for this vg "ORAVG02".

Extract from  Vgdisplay output:

# vgdisplay -v /dev/ORAVG02
VG Name /dev/ORAVG02
VG Write Access read/write
VG Status available
Max LV 255
Cur LV0 --> No Lvol configured
Open LV 0
Max PV 16
Cur PV 2
Act PV 2
Max PE per PV 1016
VGDA 4
PE Size (Mbytes) 256
Total PE 670
Alloc PE 0   --> This means no PE's are assigned
Free PE 670  -

.................

Possible cause: The missing lvol might be deleted by user.

If you have this volume group backup restore from it.

Re: device file problem

You should review syslog.log or OLDsyslog.log for recent changes, since LVM related changed are recorded there. If vgimport doesn't work, your data is most likely gone (based on human error = deleting the LVOL).

Hope this helps!
