esmd: System Error: The EVM daemon has failed and cannot be restarted

I am seeing the below error on my HPUX system syslog,

"esmd: System Error: The EVM daemon has failed and cannot be restarted"

Recently following patches were installed,
FEATURE11i B.11.31.0803.318b Feature Enablement Patches for HP-UX 11i v3, March 2008
HWEnable11i B.11.31.0803.318a Hardware Enablement Patches for HP-UX 11i v3, March 2008
QPKAPPS B.11.31.0803.318a Applications Patches for HP-UX 11i v3, March 2008
QPKBASE B.11.31.0803.318a Base Quality Pack Bundle for HP-UX 11i v3, March 2008


The error was noticed after the installation of above patches.

One of the ITRC thread mentioned installing PHCO_36032 and PHCO_36038 patches as soltuon. These patches are already present in the solution

Yes,Please download & Install Patches.

Yes those patches are already present in the system.

# swlist QPKBASE | grep -e PHCO_36038 -e PHCO_36032
documentation change needed for stat(5)
QPKBASE.PHCO_36038 1.0 esmd(1M) cumulative patch
QPKBASE.PHCO_36032 1.0 killall(1M) cumulative patch

hello,

 

if you have same issue you can try to  Copy evmstart and evmstop scripts from the good host. Then the issue is solved.
