HPUX 11.31 and EVA3000

Hi,
I have all my systems with HPUX 11.23 and they are connected to a EVA3000 (fw 3.014). One of the systems (testing one) was upgraded to HPUX 11.31 with Oracle 11G (for testing reasons). I know that EVA3000 with FW 3.014 is not supported, but we just to do tests to try to upgrade everything later. When I try to do to a pvcreate to a LUN, it shows this error:

# pvcreate /dev/rdisk/disk10
pvcreate: IO error on Physical Volume device "/dev/rdisk/disk10".

# pvcreate -f /dev/rdisk/disk10
pvcreate: Error: Couldn't read LVMREC for the physical volume "/dev/rdisk/disk10".

I tried leaving just one path (one HBA and just one WWN host in the EVA conf), but I had no luck.
┬┐Does anybody know a way to make this thing work?. As I said, it is only for testing purposes and it is not intended to be permanent. Thanks very much in advance.

(PS: We cannot upgrade fw or do other changes to the SAN because of the production running systems)

How about evainfo to legacy DSF?

Did you try other commands like diskinfo / dd to test this LUN ?

Yes, I tried legacy special devices and the behavior was the same. I tried diskinfo and it shows the proper info, as well as scsimgr.

Re: HPUX 11.31 and EVA3000

As long as the EVA is active/passive it cannot work with 11.31.

Hope this helps!

Hi, first of all, thanks for your answers. I just want to know for sure if there is no any trick to make this work, and I mean, may be changing the WRITE_CACHE to writethrough (just an idea)or something that helps. Or definitely
there is no way to make them talk each other.

Thank you very much.

Maybe because it simply doesn't work? Is there some reason you can't bring it up to date?

Re: HPUX 11.31 and EVA3000

Because there are many servers connected to the same SAN, which are getting disk services from this EVA. Upgrading EVA's firmware implies upgrading all the HBA's FW in the SAN, then all the switches and finally the EVA FW; and my boss doesn't want to do all this stuff. So, I have just this machine connected to the SAN which is idle right now, and so, comes the question. A big renewal is coming but I want to do some tests before (or my boss want me to do them)

As long as the EVA is still a/p; the server will cause the controllers to switch permanently.

Hope this helps!
