Re: IA64 HP superdome server SD32B slow performance

Hi Pete,

Yes, We are using glance to monitor the system performance and utilization, we understand we need to fine tune the kernel parameter first before we go for CPU and Memory upgrade.

Do you have any guide to fine tune the system according to system load. At the moment, we found filecache_max, maxfile_lim and max_thread_proc parameter is hitting 100% threshold and we need to increase it.

We need some justification and expertise to fine tune these parameters. Is there any system impact if we fine tune the above parameters ? Thanks.

Cheers :)

Again, you need to think hard about increasing filecache_max.  The one purpose of the kernel is to make this value 100%.  The other two indicate some pig of a process is exceeding the current limits.

The definition of fine tune is to do something better.  Perhaps you meant mis-tune?

Yes, the latter two can cause pigs to take up all of the system resources.

And the opposite, cause applications to work.
