Is my disk hot swappable
Hi All,
tunix04:HZNQ1 >uname -a
HP-UX tunix04 B.11.11 U 9000/800 811980681 unlimited-user license
tunix04 >vgdisplay -v vg00 tells me
I have a disk [/dev/dsk/c1t15d0] that is "unavailable". Other disk in the Volume Group [/dev/dsk/c3t15d0] is "available"
tunix04 >diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c1t15d0
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c1t15d0:
vendor: HP 36.4G
product id: ST336753LC
type: direct access
size: 35566480 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 512
I am trying to work out a plan for the replacement of the "unavailable" disk and wish to know if my disk is hot swappable
Any thoughts and feedback is welcome
Steve

Re: Is my disk hot swappable
Next time better open the thread in HP-UX sub forum.
However, here we go.
The disk is CLAIMED, this doesn't look bad.
disk 1 0/0/1/1.15.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 36.4GST336753LC
/dev/dsk/c1t15d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t15d0
I would now test the disk for errors:
# dd if=/dev/rdsk/c1t15d0 of=/dev/null bs=4096k
This will take a while.
If no I/O errors, try to activate it:
# vgchange -a y vg00
# vgsync vg00 &
Please post
# vgdisplay -v vg00
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Is my disk hot swappable
The "dd" will run around 30min - more or less.
I think you have to wait ...
Don't use "count", read the complete disk.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Is my disk hot swappable
Just in case the disk is really dead, hot swap the disk.
See
When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad_WP
http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01911837/c01911837.pdf
0/0/1/1.15.0 is the upper disk.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Is my disk hot swappable
Please strictly follow the instructions.
Disable LVM access (pvchange -a n ...).
This is important, other wise you cannot do a vgcfgrestore!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
