Is there a limit to the maximum number of groups a user can belong

Is there a limit to the maximum number of groups a user can belong to in RHEL4? I have been reading that although the kernel can handle up to 64k groups per user, glibc and other user space authentication programs will allow only 16. Can someone answer this Q? Thanks.

I don't know exactly the total amount but it's true that some services can use only 16, like NFS.
