Mirror 1 hardware, seen as two drives instead of one :( - Fedora 10 64bits

HI, i've got a HP Proliant ML110 G5, and after
I made the RAID1 mirror with the controller
utility, Fedora sees my RAID as two different
devices [sda and sdb] instead of one entity
[sda]. I do use Fedora 10 x86/64.
What should I do? Will I be able to use the
RAID 1 facility offered by the hardware
controller?
Please help,what should I do?

Thank you.

Shalom,

please post fdisk -l output.

This is not the way the hardware raid is supposed to present. If you have two disks and use hardware raid configuration to create 1 raid 1 disk then the presentation to the OS should be 1 disk.

I also suggest booting into the array utility and checking the status and configuration of the disks.

Greetings Steven,

Thanks for your reply.

fdisk -l shows a sda and a sdb object, like two separate disks.

The raid status is ok, i've checked in the utility.

I don't know what's happening.

Shalom again.

I need to see the output from fdisk. There is normally size information.

I have that installed on this laptop and might be able to provide further assistance.

Patch the system and see if the situation continues.

Sorry, i am not able to provide the fdisk, cos i'm not near the computer, but I will be tomorow!

What do you mean by "patch the system" ?

The embeded SATA controller in the ML110 G5 is a "software" RAID controller. A driver is required for the RAID function to work. The driver is not open source and only made available from HP for specific RHEL and SLES kernels.

Jimmy Vance, you saved the day, thank you.

Yes, you are right, that's a software controller. It's the first time I ever saw in my life this type of controller.

I solved the problem by installing a software raid with Fedora 10, as this server doesn't have a real hardware controller.

Thank you again.
