You cannot.
The OS must be up and running for that. Do the checks from OS.

You can either check for either check for errors (if any) from MP>SL
Or go to the running OS - MP>CO
then use the HP-UX commands mentioned
MP is the Management (Processor) Console

From MP , you can check MP LAN
MP>CM>LS
For system log
MP>CM>SL
But u can not check LAN from MP, for it u have to check it from OS
#lanscan
#ping
#vi /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
