Multipathin is not working in RHEL 5.3

Hi All,

We are facing a problem in the following setup.
We are using two number s of HP DL 380 G5 SERVERS and rhel 5.3 is the Operating system. We want to connect MSA 50 storage and on these servers and i want to create a shared storage on this MSA.

Please brief me how to do the Mutlipathing for this?

Is it any extra software is required for doing the multipath?

Early reply is very helpful to us...

Advnced thanx to all...

Thanx and rgds,

Re: Multipathin is not working in RHEL 5.3

I don't remember the MSA 50 specifically, but the MSAs with 2 doiguts are not arrays but are storage expansion.

You are talking about 2 servers. Are you trying to share the MSA 50 between the servers. If so, I'm nearly certain that the MSA 50 is not designed for this. So teh problem with MP may be tied into that.

Hi All,

Sorry for the wrong stoarage model given in my earlier resopnse.

It is MSA 500 not MSA 50.

DM Multipath does not work with MSA500. The only multipath that works is MD and I'm not sure it is supported with RHEL 5.3.

Shalom,

For multipathing to work in this context, you will need a fiber switch and two HBA cards connected to it.

MSA-50 by itself is probably not enough. An MSA-1000 or MSA-1500 would be what is needed.

I have seen built in multipathing work in this setup.

Re: Multipathin is not working in RHEL 5.3

Hi,

If I remember correctly, the MSA500 is a SCSI device, rather than Fibre, so I doubt you really need multipathing software.

You will however need some form of clustering software.

That's if shared SCSI storage is supported on RHEL 5.3...

Cheers,

Re: Multipathin is not working in RHEL 5.3

All - MSA500 is a SCSI device.

The ONLY multipath support available for it is with MD, not DM.

The MSA500 may not support MD with RH5.

If you are doing SGLX clustering there has been support for MD MP with MSA500.

If you are doing any other Linux clustering, I doubt there is support for multipathing. You should check with the cluster provider.
