network printers status

I'm using HP Network Printer interface (HPNP).

I'm looking at printer's status with lpstat command .

Printer's status never comes down when printer becomes out of order (paper
missing , not ready ..)

same: status of a job on a not ready printer stays at
printing

is it normal ???

Is the printer configured on another system and the HP is printing to it
remotely? If so, then the printer's status won't always be given properly,
depending on how its server is configured and what OS it's running.

If you are printing to it using JetAdmin and it's got a JetDirect card on it,
then the status should be accurate. Is this an HP printer?

I confirm : I'm using hpjetadmin on HP-UX , the printer
is HP4000 with jetdirect card inside , and the accurate
status of the printer is not display with lpstat command.

same for HP8000 with jetdirect

any idea ?
