system-config-authenticaion
Use the gui and you are done
system-redhat-authentication for Red Hat 3.

NIS is not what most people would call a file
sharing scheme. NFS is a file sharing scheme.
If you want to mount some remote file system
on your local system, then you probably want
NFS, not NIS. If you want to share passwd,
group, and similar data among some systems,
then NIS may be what you want, but it doesn't
really "share a file".
