Not even with --debug? Does the /dev/rtc device exist?

Re: no output for hwclock on RHEL4

rtc file already exists.

hwclock --debug :

hwclock from util-linux-2.11y
hwclock: Open of /dev/rtc failed, errno=16: Device or resource busy.
Using direct I/O instructions to ISA clock.
Last drift adjustment done at 1262431702 seconds after 1969
Last calibration done at 1262431702 seconds after 1969
Hardware clock is on local time

Re: no output for hwclock on RHEL4

The directISA method seems to work then. Check if /dev/rtc is being used (maybe locked) by some other process:

fuser /dev/rtc

Also check if there are updates available for the util-linux package. There were some hwclock related issues in the 2.11 and 2.12 versions.

Besides the hwclock problem, is your clock actually drifting?

Re: no output for hwclock on RHEL4

Shalom,

System needs a update to current update.

Also boot it and make sure the hardware clock is working.
