Hi
I will create a Active/ Passive cluster (unix system) with external storage in production banking environment , for Database server. I know resource will shift from one node to another node , where user will not hamper for down any node--correct me if i am wrong.
My query is if one node failed , Database will automatically run in another node or need to run manually ?
Waiting for feedback as urgent.
Cheers//

Re: Query for Active / pasive cluster
I think it depends on your design implementation on HA failover cluster;but normally answer is YES.
do you use Service Guard to control ?

Re: Query for Active / pasive cluster
Hi Hakki
Thanks for your reply . I understood that database will automatically shift from one node to another , if any node failed in Active/Passive cluster ---correct me if iam wrong.
In Active/Passie cluster , do i need to install oracle in both node in root disk (local disk) ?
After shifting database from one node to another , do i need to run oracle instance manually or it will run automatically as oracle will be installed in both node ?
Waiting as urgent feedback.
Thanks

Yes.you need to have applications on both node, OR all nodes how many node you have..

Re: Query for Active / pasive cluster
i will configure two node Active/Passive cluster
I understood that , oracle will run in both local node (Active node , Passive node) but databse will run in external storage .
If any node failed, database will be shift and connect with active node where oracle instance will be run .---correct me if i am wrong
Thanks

Re: Query for Active / pasive cluster
with Serviceguard applications will still be available during hardware and software upgrades.
when it comes to Oracle, as far as I see, if you use Oracle's Cluster Ready Service, in case of killing this service will reboot the node. So , I think ,in normally, your Oracle application instance will be restarted in newly active node. I mean any problem in active node, adoptive node (you called passive) will take over activity.

in this scenerio, your external disk must be common to both nodes as SAN server ? if yes , if SAN is up and running , you shoud not have problem.

Thanks for your reply.
In this scenario, user should not hamper /disturbing for their current job during shifting databse from one node to another node ---correct me if i am wrong
Thanks

SolutionYes, you are right in theory, this is what is HA for.
But I am not sure that if failover occured during a long runner process (not completed yet) new node can take over the process from where it left ? (sounds hard) OR restart the whole process again ? I am not sure that.
