we need to change password for more than 50 hosts. i have encrypted password.
i can propagate with usermod command. but it is giving error, user already in use.
critical application is running on these hosts.
I can use force option.
my question---
is it safe? will it affect application since application is using this user account?
Regards
Shameem

Solutionthis check is there for when you are doing something that could really effect a user logged in (changing the UID or GID for example).
so as long as the application isn't logging in to the system using a cached copy of the old password somewhere you are fine...
