On our rx4640 HP-UX 11.23, we need to upgrade it to 11.31 with an ISO file of 7.7gb. The Upgrade will be done by taking down the Server, and rebooting it with the 11.31 ISO file inserted in its current CD/DVD.
Currently what we have is: "TEAC product id: DV-28E-C type: CD-ROM size: 2291616 Kbytes bytes".
I got the above information from running # diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0.
Is there a way to read the CD/DVD "Product number"? and where can I find the spec to be sure that the "Product Number" can support the 7.7gb ISO file?
Thanks

Re: Reading 7.7gb ISO file on rx4640 CD/DVD
Here is information on that device:
http://www.teac.co.jp/dspd/product/optical/dv-28ec.html
That device can read DVD's, so if you burnr that ISO file to a double-layer DVD then this device should be able to read it.
Note that the 7.7 GB file REQUIRES a double-layer / dual-layer DVD and a double-layer / dual-layer burner. It will not work with a regular single-layer DVD Burner and media.

Re: Reading 7.7gb ISO file on rx4640 CD/DVD
But How can you be sure that this drive support double-layer DVD? in the link you provided it does not specifying explicitly the double-layer.
Thanks

SolutionYou only need the double-layer specific drive when creating a DVD.
A normal DVD drive can usually read a double-layer DVD disk.

Re: Reading 7.7gb ISO file on rx4640 CD/DVD
I work on a rx2600. diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 indicates:
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0: vendor: TEAC product id: DV-28E-B type: CD-ROM
The specs: http://www.teac.co.jp/dspd/product/optical/dv-28eb.html
So, are you saying this older unit will also be able to read a dual-layer DVD disk (created on another burner) in order to do a cold-install of 11.31?
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Reading 7.7gb ISO file on rx4640 CD/DVD
This link shed some more light on this issue http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa6.htm
I personally will be ready with a newer model,In case the DVD will not read, and the same goes for my case.
