SolutionHow did you installed the kernel? To be able to detect the kernel, you must install it using rpm:
rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.9-22.EL-
If you followed the previous link, probably means that you installed from the source.
If you already booted the kernel, you can install the package with the:
--nodeps
Option safely.
Also. Assigning 0 points it's not nice. You should give at least 1 point that means "Your answer did not help, but thanks anyway". This means that you thank to the people that tried to help you, even if the answer was not helpful.

Re: red hat cluster information
whenever i am booting and executing the command uname-r i am getting the following output
2.6.9-22.EL
i did that by
rpm -Uvh *.rpm
but there are no entries in
rpm -qa|grep kernal
the output of this command is
cman-kernel-2.6.9-39.5
kernel-2.6.9-34.EL
kernel-utils-2.4-13.1.80
kernel-devel-2.6.9-34.EL
kernel-doc-2.6.9-34.EL
dlm-kernel-2.6.9-37.7
kernel-largesmp-devel-2.6.9-34.EL
i have installed the cluster packages they are installed by using --nodeps
i want to confirm whether the steps are right are not

Re: red hat cluster information
rpm -Uvh *.rpm
The only dependencie missing was the kernel, that you already have installed, so no problems. But if you saw another dependencies, you must meet that too, for example, lvm2, etc.
If you did not see any other dependencies requirement, then you are ready to start.

Re: red hat cluster information
Some additional data from someone working with clustering quite extensively RHCS.
On certain hardware here is the lateset kernel/clustering combinations I have found to work.
dlsm/cman series ending with .8 and .10
dlm-1.0.1-1
dlm-kernheaders-2.6.9-44.3
dlm-kernel-2.6.9-44.3
dlm-devel-1.0.1-1
dlm-kernel-hugemem-2.6.9-44.3
dlm-kernel-smp-2.6.9-44.3
[root@shalom1 ~]# rpm -qa | grep cman
cman-kernheaders-2.6.9-45.8
cman-1.0.11-0
cman-kernel-hugemem-2.6.9-45.8
cman-kernel-2.6.9-45.8
cman-kernel-smp-2.6.9-45.8
cman-devel-1.0.11-0
The latest kernel these work with is:
uname -a
Linux shalom1.investmenttool.com 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Oct 6 06:21:39 CDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
There is a kernel ending in .8 and .10 and it WONT work with RHCS, specifically cman fails rather miserably.
SMP/EL doesn't matter in this context.
I'm working with RH 4 update 4 and that is very stable, having run it over 180 days in once circumstance without failure.
There are some bugs in the version of RHCS you are using that may cause you to wish to be on update 4. You are using ia64 I noticed and your mileage may vary.
So for RHCS 4 update 4 I recommend either the base 2.6.9-42.0 or the 2.6.9-42.0.3 kernel. To make life more fun RHCS may require previous versions of the hugemen kernel be installed.
Much more fun than Serviceguard right?
