red hat linux and P800 controller

Hi
I am running red hat enterprise linux version 5.3.
I have and external disk enclosure, MSA60 controlled by a p800 smart array controller.

With the hpacucli utility I have configured several raid5 and also somr raid1.

The Oracle administrators have request this special configuration becuse with the ASM (Oracle utility) they make all the raid 5 like a single disk , and also they do the same with the raid1.

Now when they are seeing the performance using the Oracle tools they have been seeing low performance on the raid5 disks.

question.
It will be a good practice to configure the disk that come from the smart array in the way the have requested for?

Re: red hat linux and P800 controller

Shalom,

Now when they are seeing the performance using the Oracle tools they have been seeing low performance on the raid5 disks.

Note: Oracle recommends raid 1 or raid 10 for index, redo and data on Online Real Time Transaction systems. That means heavy write.

Boot your system at console, and take the prompt, usually F8 to reconfigure raid for hardware. The prompt mentions smart start.

Totally 100% back up your system first, because it is easy to wipe your data.
