Re: Resetting MP from root HPUX - 9000/800/rp8420
On olders systems with a GSP, there used to be a way of resetting from the OS command line - I'm not aware this was ever carried forward into the MP or iLO processor in newer HP-UX systems. Assuming you can't login to the MP and issue the XD command (choose option3 for a reset), I think your only choice here is to physically access the server and press and hold the reset button on the MP for 3 seconds - that should cause it to reset. Failing that someone needs to shutdown the system and then remove all the power cables to force a restart of the MP.

Hello,
There is no way to reset the MP / ILO from OS.
if you have forgotten the MP ipaddress than you can try the below command to see the Ipaddress
#CIMUtil -e root/cimv2 HP_ManagementProcessor
Hope it helps

What you may be thinking of is this functionality:
# stty +resetGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1
This would sometimes work, but not always. I don't know if it will work on an rp8420 or not.

That was what I was thinking of, and no, it won't work on a rp8420 as this has a MP, not a GSP.
