RHEL5 keeps on rebooting

Hi,

I have restored a full file system backup to a new installed RHEL5. Upon restarting, the server would keep on rebooting each time it is about to bring the LOG ON screen.
Please, is there anyway I can enter into a minimal mode to be able to troubleshoot (for example SINGLE USER or MAINTENANCE modes in HP Unix, SAFE MODE in Windows)?

Please help,

Yaboto

Re: RHEL5 keeps on rebooting

Sure you can.

On the Grub Menu splash screen right after restarting, interrupt it.

Edit the kernel line and add "single"

b to boot

You are in single user mode.

What Full Filesystem backup did you restore? Is it an applications software tree for that matter?

Re: RHEL5 keeps on rebooting

Please, I mean full file system including the application three: everything.

This method of recovery works very well even with Oracle Database sitting on HP-UX even though it may not be recommended, just that you may need to reconfigure some LVM or volume group settings, at times removing some specific systems files.

Any idea to help me out, please.

Re: RHEL5 keeps on rebooting

Hi,

The Single user mode would be got by init 1.

If that doesn't work: you would need to go to
linux rescue, else linux emergency mode

Some excellent reading here:

(same for RHEL)..
