Significance of ilo?

Significance of ilo?

Hello,

It has been several years since I worked with ProLiant, so consider me a newbie.

I turned off the ILO for our new DL380G6, because we access it through a KVM switch anyhow. And we don't need fencing support.

But maybe there are consequences of turning of the ILO which I'm overlooking? E.g.: The SMH (system management homepage) is empty, i.e. it says "No items" instead of showing the hardware inventory. Could this be due to my turning off of the ILO?

Or: Is an ILO needed for updating firmware on the mainboard, for example?

Re: Significance of ilo?

iLO is mainly designed for remote access and management.
iLO is not needed to update the firmware. SMH also shouldn't depend on it. SMH probably doesn't work because some part of PSP is not installed. What OS do you use on this server?

Re: Significance of ilo?

It turned out that I was probably missing hp-smh-templates-8.5.0.13-15.noarch
Things seem to work now, even with the inactive ILO.

Re: Significance of ilo?

Solution: Installation of hp-smh-templates-8.5.0.13-15.noarch (probably).
