Trouble choosing linux architecture


I have a quad-cpu, dual core Intel(R) Xeon(TM) MP CPU 2.70GHz setup.

I am trying to figure out if I should use

Redhat Enterprise AMD64
Redhat Enterprise EM64
Redhat Enterprise IA64
or
Redhat Enterprise x86-64

Can someone shine some light for me on this?

IA64 is for itanium based processors. Red Hat for EMT64 or AMD64 is the same distro, so your choices really are:

IA64 - Not for your
x86 - Can be installed, 64-bit extensions not available
x86_64 - Can be installed on AMD64 or Intel EMT64

What I am trying to ultimately know is what is the best architecture for my CPU:
Intel(R) Xeon(TM) MP CPU 2.70GHz

you mentioned:
x86-64: Can be installed on AMD64 or EMT64

Is this what my chip is?

Oops, sorry.
"Dual-core" made me ass-u-me that these CPUs would be fairly new. That hyperthreading feature makes it easy to confuse things, but I still should have checked some more.

(A big fat zero points for me from this thread, please!)
