Unable to start the diskdump service.

Hi,

I am unable to start the diskdump service. I found the following in the /var/log/messages.

diskdump: diskdumpctl: /dev/cciss/c0d0p3 is not supported!

Please suggest.

]# more /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 2)
----------------------------------------------# more /etc/sysconfig/diskdump
#
# DEVICE=/dev/sdc8
#
DEVICE=/dev/cciss/c0d0p3
----------------------------------------------# service diskdump initialformat
/dev/cciss/c0d0p3: [100.0%]
----------------------------------------------# chkconfig diskdump on
# service diskdump start
Starting diskdump: [FAILED]
----------------------------------------------
Thanks & Regards.

Re: Unable to start the diskdump service.

I don't know diskdump, but maybe only a trouble on fstab ? (5th field should be set to 1 for dump)

I have had exactly the same trouble on DL360 G5.

To get around this problem I updated the kernel to 2.6.9-32 (I used 2.6.9-42) or later, updated to the latest CCISS drivers (2.6.14-7) from HP.com and diskdump (1.3.15-1) and the service started working OK.
