vsftp error
Hi all,
I have just set up vsFTP on fedora 6. Everything works fine on my company?s LAN.
However, I found I can not connect FTP server from outside world (e.g. from my home machine),
I got error message like ?ftp: connect :Unknown error number?. I can ping the server machine, just cannot ftp to it.
What could cause this problem? DNS ?Thanks for any tips.

Re: vsftp error
What's your firewall look like? In particular, are you using a stateful firewall (-m state)?
Are you doing any NAT in order to get the server to work from external?

One long-haired git at your service...

Re: vsftp error
Shalom,
I think this is a firewall problem.
use the nmap command to check what ports are open.
nmap firewall

Re: vsftp error
I receive "ftp: connect :Unknown error number" if the vsftpd daemon cannot be contacted.
This most likely will be because of a firewall configuration problem, but also could be the listen_address configuration parameter in vsftpd.conf.
Check your firewall with system-config-securitylevel
