VPN server on 3000DSL ? dyndns use ?
Hi fellow 3Com users,
Did any of you managed to configure a router 3000 to be used as a
simple smb vpn server for remorte workers ?
I got it working with a trick from 3com knowledgebase 3KB14927
(http://knowledgebase.3com.com/consumer/solutionheader.asp?
id=GUIDd2a66a0a_5ece_4e98_994d_391eb8869568&resource=&nSho
wFacts=&nShowCause=&nShowChange=&nShowAddInfo=&number=0
&searchtype=normal&selecttype=match&searchclass=&bnewsession=f
alse)
This solution refers to microsoft's solution id : http://www.clavister.com/support/kb/10074/
This uses a "ProhibitIpsec" option on windows XP. After this
modification in registry, the vpn connection works properly but with no
encryption, and this is not a good solution.
In my case, my 3com router is behind NAT and its IP address is
dynamic (I've put a dyndns server on my internal server as my other
question is : did any of you managed to use this chinese website that
seems to be the chinese dyndns ?)
Thanks !

Re: VPN server on 3000DSL ? dyndns use ?
You are quite correct that though there is a solution, it is not ideal since the connection is in the clear. I have been looking for a solution along the same lines; unsuccessfully. As far as the Chinese site you refer to, have not checked it out.

Re: VPN server on 3000DSL ? dyndns use ?
Hi,
I think using Router 3000 is not a very friendly way of doing this. There is a lot of options from 3Com. Name it: X5 - 3CRX5DV-U-96 (this is probably the best), OC Firewall 3CREVF100-73, and new OC gateways with 300 in part number (but they support only 5 concurrent L2TP or PPTP users).
Best regards
./Miro
