new HP 1810G - need information

Hi,

looking for a fanless switch, I recognized the HP 1810G:

http://www.procurve.com/training/training/technical/npi/1810g-npi.htm?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Unfortunately, I can┬┤t find the NPI technical traingin within the "Learning center". I can find everything else, but not this one.
Also, the given link on that page:

http://www.procurve.com/products/switches/HP_ProCurve_1810G_Switch_Series/overview.htm

is dead. So there┬┤s no specification sheet, I could download.

So, it would be great if someone of you has some more information about the features of that new switch?

P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to Web and Unmanaged. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: new HP 1810G - need information

This switch has not yet been released, and this is the first I've heard of it, so I don't even have an ETA on the release date.

You might want to consider the 1800-24G or 1400-24G if you are looking for a fanless gig switch.

The link:

is now working. Nice switch, good successor for 1800

Yep that info was just published for the first time on procurve.com yesterday.

Asking myself whether that "loop protection" is based opon MSTP or STP.
Is that protection VLAN aware?

Re: new HP 1810G - need information

Assuming it is similar to the loop-protect feature on other Procurve switches, it is independant from STP and much simpler.

Basically, the switch sends out loop-protect pdu packets on any port with loop-protect enabled, then if it receives the same packet on the same port, it disables the port.

Not nearly as robust as STP, but it's effective at stopping loops on unmanaged devices, where STP cannot operate.

Also, it is generally not vlan aware.

Hey guys can this small form factor switch perform 802.1x assigned vlans via MAC and web?

Re: new HP 1810G - need information

Unfortunately not.

In such a case, I think it is better to use a centralized 3500yl/6200/5400/8200 with 1 HP 1400 layer 2 switch.
