Let me give you the benefit of some real world experience.

Redo, data and index for oracle need to be raid 1 or raid 10. If you try and do it raid 5, you will get huge bottlenecks during heavy write periods because of how many disks need to be updated at the same time.

If the database is mostly reads, then you can ignore this advice.

As another real-world user of large Oracle DB (multi-TB, on large rp84xx, SDXX machines) on EVA5000's. We are finding out the same findings as the attached white paper which will also give you tidbits onhow to properly set up Oracle on EVA and the performance behaviour.

It's for 10G but should apply to 9.X as well.

But that was months ago... we've sinced decided to move to the more "Enterprise" capable XP12000 array as we were having problems with scalability as well as some serious reliability issues.

Does the 10g evalution applies to 9i as well?

What sort of scalability and "serious reliability issues" you have came across using EVA?? It's interesting to know
