access to the command prompt (cmd) from the remote server

hi

Is it possible to access to the command prompt (cmd) from the remote WIN2003 SP2 server?
I'd like to stop/start some services or change to startup manually on the remote hanging WIN2003 server.

Re: access to the command prompt (cmd) from the remote server

You can try accessing the shared location of the server by

start-->run -->\\\C$

so that you will get the C:\ drive of that server from therr you can move to system32 folder and access the cmd prompt.

But you will be asked for admin password of the destionation machine

On the other thread, Edgar recommended "You can run psexec.exe
Download it from: http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/PsTools.zip"

I personally would install SSHD on the machine you want to run commands on, then use PuTTY to log into said machine from another desktop.

Re: access to the command prompt (cmd) from the remote server

Alan added a quote mark at the end of the URL, which made the link not to work.

http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/PsTools.zip
Thanks for fixing the URL.

Hi chris,

Yes. You can make use of PsExec freeware tool.
