Boot Controller Replacement Procedure

Hi folks,

We have an ML150 with a PCI Adaptec 29320ALP-R SCSI as boot controller. This adapter is running as SCSI, not RAID. We need to activate the RAID option via Setup, but after doing this the server won't boot. As part of the change to RAID, we have to create a new RAID1 volume, the controller copies (mirrors) the data from drive 0 to drive 1.

The problem is, the server is running some apps that we just can't reinstall, unfortunately, due to politics and other non-technical issues =(.

There is no blue screen of death, nor "BOOT DEVICE INACCESIBLE" messages, the server just halts in the "Starting Windows" screen. If we revert to the original state, the server boots just fine.

The question: is there any procedure in order to "prepare" the O.S. before the "mode switch" from SCSI to RAID? Installing drivers, modifiying BOOT.INI and such?

You are changing, by going from a single disk to a RAID setup, the scsi addressin sequence. You will need to manually edit at least 1 line in the boot.ini file to accomodate.
