Reasonable value for Page Fault Delta
On a DL380 G5 with 4GB memory...
I am monitoring (amongst other things) the page fault delta value on a W2003/R2 server.
The software used for triggering alerts has a default value of 10/second for this rule, consequently the server is always showing as "paging too high".
What would be an appropriate value for this rule? Based on what I usually see in task manager I am thinking of changing it to 1000

Re: Reasonable value for Page Fault Delta
Not quite sure of what you mean by 10/sec ? 10 samples per second or one sample every 10 second?
To answer you indirectly I would rarely want to sample performance values more often than once every 15 minutes = once per 900 seconds.
Otherwise one risks the sampling itself to become resource intensive and thus a part of the equation - leading one to false results.
Cheers,
Rune

Re: Reasonable value for Page Fault Delta
I am not concerned with the sample rate, I just want to set a value for the "paging too high" rule so that an alert is triggered when the value is exceeded.
The default value of 10 pages/second is too low, and I am thinking of changing it to 1000 pages/second, but I was wondering what is a reasonable figure
