Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!!
yes this can be done. The steps you need to do are basically these:
1) make sure you have unpartitioned
free/unused space after your c:\ disk
- If you have standalone, simple SCSI or
SAS disks without a RAID controller, this
is not possible, stop and reinstall the
OS on larger disks is the only solution.
- If you have a raid controller and the c:\
partition is the full size of the hard
disks, then you need to replace one disk
at a time with larger disks and rebuild
the array. Then when the array is
extended, expand your logical drive with
the size you need or take the max
possible size.
- if you already have free/unused space
after the c:\ drive then fine and see
step 2)
2) reboot the server and boot with the HP
reinstall media DVD if you have that.
Boot from it as if you were to re-image
the server, (don't worry nothing will
happen to your hard disks).
When the SAC prompt is available, open a
CMD channel and run diskpart.
3) perform these commands:
- list disk (to see all disks available)
- select disk x( the disk you want to
extend)
- list volume (to see all volumes)
- select volume x (the one that is the
C:\ disk)
- extend
4) type exit and reboot
These steps will make your c:\ drive larger
and no further actions are needed at the Windows OS level.
You can run a chkdsk on your c:\ disk first and you will see the new size and free space have changed.
You really need the WinPE IA64 environment which is what the reinstall DVD from HP boots in first. WinPE on its own is only for developpers and integrators and large Microsoft customers i think.
The HP re-install media is a product everyone can buy and it includes your Windows OS license also and WinPE.

Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!!
One question are the disk are in an array? Have more space free in other partition?
What kind of disk configuration do you have now?

Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!!
the easiest way to resize partition is to convert that disk in dynamic disk, and then join two partitions on the same disk or any other...

Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!!
HP server has a RAID 1 of 70 GB, C: drive is 10 GB 95% full, and D: drive is the remainder, 10% full.
Could I do the following:
-backup the D: drive
-erase the partition
-extend the C drive
-recreate the D Partition, which is now smaller
-restore the D partition
OS is Windows 2003. server is DL380 G4 with a SmartArray 6i

Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!!
Now you can resize other partitons that have free space and expand the os partition with the unallocated, but backup your data before any operation to the server is a good habit.
Try easeus partition master, it can commplete the job very well, even without reboot the computer, see the tutorial http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/repartition-server.htm

Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!!
the example i provided at the time was on a IA64 architecture (Intel Itanium processor based servers like HP Inetgrity servers) for which one can use the WIndows reinstall DVD that HP provides.
If your platform is x86, then try to get a WinPE bootable cd and do the same steps i listed.
