Hi;
I have two vdisk presented to a host (w2k3),the disk are shared to the users with permissions.
Now I need to reinstall the Windows 2003 server. What could happen to the data in the vdisk, and what to the permissions.
Any recommendations to do it....???
Tx.

Solution
Assuming that the operating system is on a separate partition, if you reinstall the operating system:
- Share information will be lost
For NTFS permissions
If the server is not a domain controller, the file system permissions should remain intact when the server is joined to the domain.
If the server is a domain controller you must restore your directory to enable the access to the file and folders. The security ID for the users must not change or you will have to set the permissions again.

Re: Shared vdisk EVA8000 and reinstaling host
Nothing "should" happen to the data, because the logical disks are already presented somewhere -- all you'll have to do is present your logical disks to the new machine you are setting up (reinstalling win2k03).
However, a safe data practice would be to back up that data to a physical disk or other physical media before doing anything.
