Windows 2003 no response from SNMP

Help!

I have a number of servers that I monitor with HP SIM and Nagios.

Two of my windows 2003 servers don't respond to snmp requests.

The configuration is identical to working servers. I'm running both SP1 and SP2, I've re-installed SNMP multiple times, also the HP agents to no avail.

Using netcap from Microsoft I can see that requests are arriving, but nothing is returned.

Using nmap I can see that the port is accessible.

Netstat -ano shows snmp.exe as owner of the port but still no response.

I've tried enabling logging from snmp in windows but that don't generate anything, it don’t even seem to be working.

I have McAfee Antivirus installed and tried with that disabled.

Any other ideas?

Sounds like you may have a community name mismatch or a permissions issue. Double check the name and check to make sure that the server will accept SNMP requests from your SNMP managment servers.

I thought it was understood that the configuration includes community name and host access settings.

Re: Windows 2003 no response from SNMP

No firewalls what so ever are involved, one of the servers is even on the same network as the one trying to communicate with.

N.b. I have more than 100 servers that work as expected, and only two don't.
