For optimal performance, HPE recommends using VMware vVols storage architecture with HPE GreenLake for Block Storage and VCF workload domains. vVols allows per-VM storage management, rather than managing an entire shared datastore. This makes it easier to align storage capabilities to application demands and requirements. By using vVols with principal storage workload domain environments, you eliminate the requirement to provision large datastores for VMware vSphere Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) volumes. Storage can be provisioned on a per-VM basis by using Storage Policy-Based Management (SPBM). The methodology makes it possible to manage your storage capabilities through storage policies—at the VM level rather than for the entire datastore—which is helpful because managing storage for hundreds or thousands of VMs is a nightmare with traditional approaches.
