Nimble Plugin

Nimble Plugin

We are having issues with the Nimble Plugin on vCenter 8.0.2. We added two new hosts, and they see the Datastores but not the VVols. The Plugin allows the creation of new Datastore, but not VVols. Verified Nimble can communicate with vCenter. We have another identical environment and it is not having issues.
Nimble Version: 6.1.1.200-1020304-opt.
What would be the suggested solution to correct this issue?
Would removing the Plugin and reinstalling cause a problem with the existing VVols? CanтАЩt afford to lose storage.

Re: Nimble Plugin

Hi CR2018,

1. Verify that the HPE Nimble Storage plugin installed on vCenter is compatible with both the vCenter version (8.0.2) and the HPE Nimble OS version (6.1.1.200).
You can find the plugin's compatibility matrix and release notes in the HPE Nimble Storage release notes.
2. Upgrade the HPE Nimble plugin if a newer version is available that fixes known faults or compatibility problems. Make sure the update procedure is well-recorded and won't interfere with daily operations.
3. Make sure the HPE Nimble VASA (vSphere API for Storage Awareness) provider is registered and operational and it is essential for vVols functionality.
4. Perform a rescan of storage in vCenter. This can sometimes refresh the visibility of volumes, including vVols.
5. Go to the HPE Nimble plugin section of the vCenter client and check for any vVols-related error messages or warnings. It might offer hints on the problem.
6. Check logs on both the HPE Nimble array and the VMware hosts for any relevant error messages or warnings related to vVols. This can provide more detailed information about what might be causing the issue.
7. Always make a backup of the current configuration before making any major changes, especially if you are working in a production environment.

If the issue persists, It is recommended to reach out to HPE Nimble support to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps.

Re: Nimble Plugin

Hi ,

Under the Registered Extensions column, to be able to create VVOL Datastores using the plugin, I would expect to see [vasa, web], you mnust have enabled only [web].

Please can you register the VASA provider from the Array as follows:

This is a non-disruptive procedure.

From the Alletra Web UI -> Administration -> VMware Integration -> Edit- > check the VASA Provider box on the left -> Save.

I would suggest logging out and then logging back into vCenter at this point.

Then please retry the VVOL Datastore create workflow using the plugin and update on the result.

Additionally you may check below details as well.

1. Verify that the HPE Nimble Storage plugin installed on vCenter is compatible with both the vCenter version (8.0.2) and the HPE Nimble OS version (6.1.1.200).

2.You can find the plugin's compatibility matrix and release notes in the HPE Nimble Storage release notes.
