Please Post Your Forums Successes - April 2004!

Hi Everyone,

Please submit your highlights and successes you have had while participating in the ITRC Forums community. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:

1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?

I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - April 2004!

Hi Dan,
I'm using OpenVms operating system and until a yeas ago I can't connect a lof of printers. With shared knowledge of vms group I solved and now I can use any printers.
After join Compaq-HP, my customers asked me: "Why we can't connect HP printers?"
Now I can answer them: We can connect HP printers!
:-)
I wish thanks Italian HP for quickly response to a my e-mail.
Thank you for your patience.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - April 2004!

Hello Dan,

Apart from the question I've posted - and get nice solution for - I find very intersting to read other people question and solution.

I feel a part of this community now that I've spend a little more time on ITRC.

The point system is little "childish" but I must recognize that I found myself happy to get points and really enjoy to get quick answers.

Furthermore, the forum is very ergonomic.

Cheers

Nicolas

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - April 2004!

Dan:
I spend some time nearly every day here in the Forum. I have been a member for about 9 months. I have found a lot of useful information that has helped me in my job as an IT Systems Support Specialist for a large school district. I'm sorry I don't have a specific URL to hold up as an example, but there have been several posts that I have found particularly useful to me in my job.

I love answering questions, and am always thrilled when I am awarded points. I have little education and no certifications, but I love to learn, and this is a great place to do that! Thank you so much for making this a great place to visit!!!

Dan,

Remember sending me the email about the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional award nomination? Well, I just heard last week that I made the cut and am officially a Microsoft MVP. This was just for my work in the ITRC Microsoft forum.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - April 2004!

Hello Dan,
GREAT success story. I posted a question and had my first solution within minutes (thanks to all in the forum who take time to make this such a beneficial and successful tool).

Background ... I was receiving an auditing error when I was trying to change a password for a non-privileged user. WEIRD! Turned out that the SUID bit was not set on /usr/bin/passwd. That was the fix, and it was posted within minutes.

Again, thanks to all who are taking the time to help out. Keep up the GREAT efforts!!!

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - April 2004!

This is one of the best forums I have ever seen a large company provide to help its customers. I find the forums very helpful, because the turn around times are very quick, and the answers are often times much more clear and complete than those you may find in books and man pages :).
