A new IDC report explains how virtual desktop infrastructure can help businesses create workplace environments that are agile, resilient, scalable and secure.
A new IDC Vendor Spotlight looks at the accelerators and how modern digital workplace solutions can transform an organization into a future enterprise. IDC sees COVID-19 as the big driver of companies’ choices right now – no surprise there, perhaps, but what caught my eye was the report’s analysis of the essential characteristics of the future workplace. Among other things, it needs to be rapidly scalable, inherently secure, and cost-effective.
Virtual desktop infrastructure is a set of technologies that fits the bill, and the report zooms in on a powerful VDI solution: Wipro’s virtuadesk powered by HPE and Citrix.
Wipro virtuadesk is an enterprise-grade virtual workplace that delivers smart provisioning, analytics, deployment optimization, and automation. It includes features such as migration tools and app assessment and availability monitoring.
HPE solutions provide the infrastructure foundation, with VDI platforms based on HPE ProLiant Servers, HPE Synergy, HPE SimpliVity and HPE Nimble Storage dHCI.

Citrix solutions. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service delivers secure virtual apps and desktops to any device and provides a single, cloud-ready control plane to manage workloads. Citrix solutions also provide zero-trust security analytics as well as proactive monitoring to ensure high-definition image, audio, and video quality.
What makes this solution different from others in the market? IDC provides a long list of differentiators, including:
- a persona-based desktop experience, with optimization by business groups, functions, regions, and work styles
- real-time application experience monitoring
- financial flexibility provided by the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform.
I’d recommend taking a look at the IDC report for the full list, as well as an overview of the integrated solution architecture and some virtuadesk customer success stories. IDC concludes that “Wipro's virtuadesk, powered by HPE and Citrix, meets the criteria laid out in this document to provide the capabilities that a future-ready workplace demands.
