STP/4/STP_DISPUTE warning message on IRF stack console

Hy!

I have a IRF stack config with two HPE 1950 switch. There is a Bridge-Aggregation101 port (1/0/12 and 2/0/12) which is connected with two cable to standalone HPE 1950.

Our client has got a producitve network (some switches, mediaconverter, clients, etc.). When I connect the productive network to the standalone switch, this warning message appear on the IRF stack switch console:

STP/4/STP_DISPUTE: Instance 0's port Bridge-Aggreagtion101 received an inferior BPDU from a designated port which is in forwarding or learning state.

STP/6/STP_NOTIFIED_TC: Instance 0's port Bridge-Aggregation101 was notified a topology change.

Thsi warning message repeat continously:

What cause this warning message? When I connect the productive network to the standalone HEP 1950 switch our clients detect packet loss on all of their network. Any idea?

If  inferior BPDU  received means there are more than one root switch in the network.

Is this switch acting as root switchs?

Can you share below commands from this and connecting switches?

Is STP protection enabled?

What is the current software version?

1950 informs you that the device connected on its BAGG101 ignors superior BPDUs sent by 1950's port and keeps sending inferior BPDUs. During STP port role elections one of two ports on a point-to-point link should become 'Designated' port. Our switch thinks its port should be the designated one. Another device keeps claiming its own port should be the Designated port. This happens very often if STP BPDUs sent from the 1950 get blocked and the remote device never receives them. Sometimes it is a Layer 2 firewall between both devices, sometimes it is STP BPDU Filtering feature on the remote device, very often it is uni-directional link issue. So packets from that device to the BAGG101 on the 1950 comes through, but packets from 1950 over the BAGG101 do not reach the remote device. Another possible cause is that device's STP process ignores 1950's STP BPDUs and doesn't process them, something like a software issue. Just remember - in general this issue IS NOT on the device that generates this error, it is either in the adjacent device or on the link between two.

BUT DO NOT DISABLE DISPUTE GUARD!!! This may lead to loops and potentially will bring down your whole network. 'STP_Dispute' messages are not the issue, this is just a symptom, so in order to get rid of these messages you need to resolve the root cause.

BAGG101 was forwarding, no issues. So it seems the issue is not persistent and appears from time to time. If the issue will re-appear you need to investigate the link and adjacent device.
