OS HPUX 10.20; box i470; apache_1.3.9-hp9000_715-hpux10.20.tar
When installing apache using the command ./install-bindist.sh I get a constant stream; tar: couldn't get gname for gid 110
After starting the httpd daemon I get tons of error messages. Any clues or help.
Thanks,
Otto

Solution
The error message when you un-tar the file is just telling you that a group with GID 110 does not exist in your /etc/group file, this it can't get the name of the group. Whatever the group of the files was when they were tar'ed, the GID was 110.
On my 10.20 machine, the all of the apache files belong to the 'bin' group. I would do a 'chmod -R bin /opt/apache'.
As to the errors when you start the httpd daemon... What are they?

Re: Apache installation
I'd say you have a permissions/ownership problem on the file: /usr/lib/dld.sl
You also might have a problem with SHLIB_PATH environment variable, but I'm not sure how it applies here.
Go Patrick! Closing in on the salad bar.
