home directory question

I am trying to set up an anonymous ftp. Part of the instructions involve working with the 'home' directory. I am working on an HP-9000. What do I do if I have no 'home' directory? Should I be creating one?
thank you

Re: home directory question

Shalom,

Anonymous ftp, which should be avoided where possible does work with a "home" directory.

Its not a real home because there is no user and there is no ability to log in. I would describe it as a default upload/download point instead of using the word home.

Usually it defaults to the /pub subdirectory of the ftp root.

Which instructions?

Not a very useful description of the hardware
or the software.

uname -a

Who is "I"? Anonymous FTP normally involves
a directory tree, the head of which is
specified as the home directory for the user
"ftp".

If there isn't one already, then probably
yes.

The anonymous FTP directory should be
set up as follows:
[...]

Note that you need to follow the instructions
if you expect "ls" ("LIST") to work properly.

A Forum search for keywords like, say
anonymous FTP
should find many old thread on this topic.
(But "man ftpd" is probably more reliable.)
